Highlights

  • 01The shrine of the Virgen de la Peña, carved straight into the rock
  • 02One of the very few rectangular bullrings in Spain
  • 03The Muralla gardens, along the old fortress wall
  • 04The whole Costa del Sol below you — and Africa on a clear day

The day

Mijas Pueblo sits four hundred metres above the coast, a white village pinned to the side of a mountain with the whole Costa del Sol laid out beneath it. On a clear day the view runs past the Mediterranean to the outline of the Rif mountains in Morocco. We meet at the tourist office and walk from there.

Over two unhurried hours on foot, a licensed local guide takes you through lime-washed streets barely wide enough for two: the shrine of the Virgen de la Peña, carved directly into the rock and lit by candles; the Muralla gardens running along what is left of the old fortress wall; and one of the very few rectangular bullrings in Spain, built that shape because the mountain left no room for a circle.

It is a private walk, so the pace is yours. Stop for photographs where the view earns it, take a coffee in a square that has not changed much in fifty years, and leave with your guide's honest recommendations for the rest of the coast.

Frequently asked

Are monument tickets included?

No. This is a two-hour walking highlight of Mijas Pueblo. If you want a specific monument added, tell us in the booking notes — it may extend the total duration.

Is transport to Mijas included?

No, we meet in the village. We work with reliable transfer companies on the Costa del Sol, so a private round-trip car or coach can be arranged — leave a request in the booking comments and we will contact you with the details.

Can we adapt the route?

Yes. It is a private tour, so it can be tailored to what interests you. Leave a note when you book, or write to info@tourmarbella.com.

Where do we meet the guide?

At the Mijas tourist office, in the centre of the village. If you cannot find your guide, call +34 689 993 701.

What if we are running late?

Your guide always waits ten minutes as a courtesy. After that, any delay comes out of the total tour time, as there is usually another tour scheduled afterwards.

What happens if the weather is bad?

The visit goes ahead unless there is an official weather warning. In that case we contact you beforehand to reschedule where possible, and otherwise issue a full refund.
