How Marbella’s old town really eats

How Marbella’s old town really eats

The boquerones, the mountain cheese, the wine you did not know to ask for — eating Marbella the way locals do.

Marbella’s Old Town is small enough to cross in ten minutes and dense enough to eat in for a week. Behind the geraniums and the whitewash is a working neighbourhood of family tabernas, a covered market and bars that have poured the same wine for forty years.

The good stuff is rarely on a menu in English. It is the boquerones a friend of the guide fries to order, the payoyo cheese from the mountains behind Ronda, the glass of Manzanilla you did not know to ask for. Two or three stops, shared plates, no rush.

This is how the locals actually eat — and the walk we built around it in Flavours of the Old Town.
