The day

Ronda is the city Rainer Maria Rilke called 'the dream city': a town carved into limestone cliffs and split in two by the Tajo gorge. This is a private two-hour walk through it with a local, licensed guide, for your party only.

We meet at the tourist office opposite the bullring and walk from there: the exterior of the Real Maestranza, the cradle of modern bullfighting; the Alameda del Tajo and its viewpoints over the gorge; the Puente Nuevo; and the lanes of the old town down to Plaza Duquesa de Parcent. The Reconquest of 1485, the Moorish quarter and the people who still live here, explained without a script and with time for photographs and questions.

It is a walking tour: you arrive in Ronda on your own and transport is not included. If you would rather have a full day from your hotel on the Costa del Sol, with a private transfer, a winery or a stop in Setenil, ask us for a tailor-made proposal and we will confirm price and conditions before you book anything.

Itinerary

  1. Tourist office and the bullring

We meet opposite the Real Maestranza and start with its exterior: the cradle of modern bullfighting and one of the oldest rings in Spain.

  2. La Merced and the Alameda del Tajo

Past the Merced church into the Alameda, the 19th-century gardens hanging over the gorge with the best views of the Serranía.

  3. Paseo de los Toreros and the Puente Nuevo

Along the edge of the cliff to the bridge that joins the two halves of Ronda, a hundred metres above the Guadalevín.

  4. Casa Don Bosco (optional)

A modernist house with a garden over the gorge. Admission is an optional add-on when you book.

  5. Plaza Duquesa de Parcent

The heart of the old town, where the walk ends: the collegiate church of Santa María la Mayor and the lanes of the Moorish quarter.

Is transport from Marbella included?

No. This is a two-hour walking tour that starts and ends in Ronda, and you get there on your own (about an hour and a quarter by car from Marbella on the A-397). Can we add a winery, an olive-oil mill or Setenil de las Bodegas?

Not within this walk. They can be part of a tailor-made day that we quote separately; tell us what you have in mind and we will come back with a proposal.
