Malaga Tour

Málaga is the city most visitors fly into and immediately leave. That is their mistake, and your advantage. In two unhurried hours on foot, a licensed local guide walks you through a place that has been continuously inhabited for nearly three thousand years and still behaves like a Mediterranean town rather than a museum.

We start where the layers are easiest to see: the Roman theatre sitting at the foot of the Alcazaba, with Phoenician, Roman, Moorish and Christian Málaga stacked within a few hundred metres of each other. From there into the historic centre — the cathedral locals call La Manquita, "the one-armed lady", for the south tower that was never finished; Calle Larios; the small squares where the city actually spends its evenings; and Plaza de la Merced, where Picasso was born.

Because it is private, the route bends to you. More Picasso and less Roman history, a slower pace, a pause for coffee where the locals take theirs — just say so. Monument tickets are not included, so the walk is built around the streets, the façades and the stories, and you leave with your guide's honest recommendations for where to eat once we part ways.
